Logging in from home

There are two dial-up services available. The University dialup service can be used by all members of the University. You have to register for the service - get the form from EUCS or the Support Office, or print this on-line version, and hand it in to EUCS or the Support Office.

Our own Computer Science dialup service can be used by staff and postgraduates. It has five elderly Motorola modems capable of a maximum connection speed of 33.6 kBaud. This is rather slow, and the modems tend to be unreliable. EUCS provides a fast, supported dial-up service. This is the recommended way of connection for normal use. Application forms may be obtained from support. These links explain how to set up a home machine to connect to the Computer Science modems.

If your machine isn't covered, the basic facts you need to know are the telephone number (6506560) and the IP addresses of some suitable nameservers (129.215.96.240, 129.215.96.22, 129.215.160.240, 129.215.200.7, 129.215.194.254). You may find the setup guides in the University dialup pages useful.
