tastings

SMWS bottling 44.8 - Craigelachie 1973, aged 20 years
A fine whisky with a certain pungency or sharpness which the notes describe as "like barley-sugar in vinegar" and which I relate to the character of the manzanilla sherry that first occupied the cask. The dry saltiness of manzanilla produces none of what you would normally associate with a sherry-cask whisky. This one stood up very well to the heavier whiskies which we tried. [jw, 1995]
