The distillery was in the town whose name it bore, on the coast, west of the
mouth of the river Deveron. The distillery, established in 1824, rebuilt on a
different site in 1863, and again in 1877 ,and damaged by a bomb in the
Second World War, was the subject of much folk history. None of this prevented
it from being closed by its owners (then the Distillers Company Limited) in
1983 and dismantled.
