Founded 1846 ; Operating Status: closed (1983); demolished

The city of Inverness is regarded as the capital of the Highlands and is a good base from which to tour Speyside. A distillery in Inverness itself would be on the edge of Speyside, but would perhaps qualify for the appellation. The city had three distilleries, all of which have now been closed for some years. Glen Albyn was founded in 1846, closed in the early 1980s and has since been demolished.
