No: 97
Producer: Gibson International
Region: Lowlands
District: North-west  -   Multimap view
Map reference NS 43 73 ; Latitude 55 55° N, Longitude 4 32° W
Founded 1772 ; Operating Status: closed (1994)

A distillery that may be the oldest in Scotland. Among the several claimants to the greatest antiquity, Littlemill cites the earliest specific date for its foundation, 1772. The first clear records of its ownership however date from 1817. It was rebuilt in 1875 though its overgrown, cottage-like buildings look older. Triple distillation was used until the 1930s. Across the road from the distillery is an early mechanised maltings.

The site, at Bowling, is between Glasgow and Dumbarton. The distillery closed for a year or so in the late 1980s but reopened in 1988/9.
