Lomond Stills

The Lomond stills were designed to allow a company to widen the character and style of its malts by using stills which had an additional condenser in the head which altered the reflux action in a controlled manner. The Lomond stills were made by coppersmiths in Govan and installed in pairs at Glenburgie, Miltonduff and Inverleven. It is thought the only remaining working Lomond still is now a wash still at Scapa, working in tandem with a conventional spirit still.

It has to be said that not all malt connoisseurs were convinced that the Lomond stills made a significant difference to the end product.
