Latex Documentation

The Division now has a Divisional LaTeX environment, which is common accross all sites within the Division. You should refer to that documentation rather than this page, as this will become more and more obsolete.

The Old CS Documentation

Standard TeTeX Documentation should be assumed the most definitive reference for latex, and includes documentation for standard latex classes and tools. Using this documentation as a guide for document preparation should ensure minimum portability problems. More intricate details are available in the "(La)TeX Navigator" online encyclopedia. The TeX Users Group "TUG" and CTAN Comprehensive TeX Archive Network are also good for reference.

Windows users may find MiKTeX a useful alternative.

In addition, several local classes have been developed:-

A handful of useful non-standard packages are also installed at KB :-

Materials packaged at Informatics South are available for use within Edinburgh University in various formats. See download directory for details

TeTeX users (standard latex for Linux) wishing to use packages not installed globally may place these files in ~/.tex or ~/tex using a TDS directory structure. The most useful directories are:-

~/.tex/tex/latex Latex classes and packages.
~/.tex/bibtex/bib Bibliographies - i.e. .bib files for bibtex
~/.tex/bibtex/bst Bibliography styles - i.e. .bst files for bibtex

N.B. Users of the antiquated latex on Solaris should place all these files in ~/tex without subdirectories.
