Overview
========
This set of files consists of 

- METAFONT sources to generate an experimental version 
  of the Computer Modern Bright fonts, a new family of
  sans serif fonts for TeX and LaTeX;
- LaTeX2e font interface files;
- LaTeX documents describing the design principles and
  presenting examples of the fonts.

Generating the fonts
====================
Run METAFONT on the parameter files to generate the fonts;
additionally you will need the driver files mentioned above and
the driver files for the original CM or DC(v1.1) fonts.
Attention: Use the `plain' METAFONT base file to generate the DC
coded fonts --  don't use a precompiled `dxbase'!
The parameter files provide only one size (10pt); other sizes
must be generated using appropriate magnifications.
Generating the DC coded fonts at low resolutions (even at 300dpi)
with mag < 1 may result in METAFONT errors which, however, may 
be ignored.


Documentation
=============
The LaTeX document bright.dtx describes in german language the
design principles of the CM Bright fonts and shows some examples
of the new fonts; the file examples.tex contains only the examples.
Both documents may be compiled by LaTeX2.09 or LaTeX2e; they access
the cmbr fonts via `\newfont', so you don't need any special macro 
package (except german.sty -- both documents are written in german).
You will need the following fonts to typeset the examples:
cmbr10  (mag=1)
cmbr10   mag=2
cmbri10  mag=2
cmbrbx10 mag=2


LaTeX interface
===============
The files cmbright.dtx and cmbr.fdd contain the package files
and  font definition files  for the  LaTeX2e  interface.  Run
LaTeX2e on  cmbright.ins  to  unpack  them;  run  LaTeX2e  on 
cmbright.dtx and cmbr.fdd  to typeset the documentation.  The
documentation part of cmbright.dtx is written in german.  You 
will NOT need these  interface files to typeset the documents
bright.tex and examples.tex!


Generation and distribution of unchanged versions
=================================================
Redistribution of unchanged files is allowed provided that all 
files listed in  `files.lst'  are  distributed  including this 
readme file and its german version (liesmich.txt).
You are  NOT ALLOWED to take money for the distribution or use 
of these files or the fonts generated from them,  except for a
nominal charge for copying etc.


Generation and distribution of changed versions
===============================================
The  generation of changed versions of the files is allowed
under the following restrictions:

- You rename the file(s) before you make any changes.
- You acknowledge the origin of the original version in the 
  file(s).
- You  distribute the  original  version with your file(s).
- You make  sure that the changed versions contain a notice
  that  prevents  others to take money for  distribution or
  use of  your file(s),  i.e. they  have to be  distributed
  under the restrictions mentioned above.
