Friends
Here are some friends with their respective homepages, some of
them are soon to be moved or not quite up-to-date, so don't
expect too much… (by the way, these links are in no particular
order, so please my dear friends, do not feel offended!)
-
Conor McBride's Homepage in Edinburgh where he no
longer lives, he has moved to Durham
-
Carsten's homepage
in Edinburgh, although he is also no longer here, he has moved
to Birmingham where there is only, as far as I know, this
page…
-
The very nice homepage of Bruce McAdam, one of
the few actually Scottish people I happen to know because
Edinburgh (and Edinburgh University in particular) is such a
darn international place… :-)
-
Martins galore: Martin Lange and Martin Wehr are a
couple of very nice people who share the same first name, so I
put them together in this list item… ;-) Both also have
rather nice pictures of themselves on their homepages which I
have to say, but mine is better, taken actually by the next
guy:
-
Andreas'
homepage in Passau, his quite similar (but outdated) homepage
in Edinburgh,
have a look at it…
-
Markus'
homepage in Konstanz, it is rather basic, but he has been a
good friend over a long time, so I thought he deserves to be
on this list anyway.
Hmm, it seems that I don't have that many friends after all, but
only such friends who have homepages. So maybe this is actually
a good sign rather than a bad one… :-)
Potentially Useful(?) Links
At first I was tempted to simply put all my bookmarks in here,
but that's kind of dull, isn't it? So I decided to yet again put
an unordered list of links here, together with some comments
that you may or may not find useful…
-
The best search engine of all, ladies and gentlemen, I give
you Google; if you want to
find something on the web, try this one first before spending
hours of time waiting until Altavista et al. come up with
links completely unrelated to what you were searching for…
-
If you are, like myself, a child of the 80s and grew up with
those "home computers" like the Commodore C64, then here is a
Search Engine
for C64 Games together with a link to Vice,
a C64 emulator for many platforms… If Vice does not work for
you, why don't you try out Google and search for a C64
emulator?
-
Search Engines for Computer Science purposes can be found
here: Hypatia
which contains a lot, by which I mean a real lot of
papers on theoretical computer science; CS
Bibliographies Online where you can easily search for
articles and automatically obtain BiBTeX output which you can
then use in your own papers…
-
Software archives, mostly for UNIX derivates: LEO in Germany, a list
of TeX packages, XEmacs related things,
resources on HTML,
there is also a nice introduction & lookup document called
SelfHTML can be found at
http://www.teamone.de/selfhtml/selfhtml.htm which was
kindly pointed out to me by one of the Martin's, namely the "long" one…
-
Dictionaries: There is one at
LEO for English to German and vice versa, a Computing
Dictionary for more technical terms, or a a general one.
-
Information on what's going on the world around you in the
form of online editions of several newspapers can be found
here: Spiegel, Süddeutsche Zeitung, The Scotsman, or The Times.
-
Travel Information, like DB
Fahrplanauskunft, USIT
FareFinder for finding cheap student flights, if you have
an ISIC card.
-
Misc. inquiries, like currency conversion, Royal Mail, BT Phonebook, German city maps, and
of course there is Yahoo.
