Hello.
I think that the equipment provision is
unsatisfactory as far as PGs are concerned.
In particular, the personal needs of the
students are not catered for.
Across the road in the EE department EE PGs
have UltraSPARCs. In other universities the
PGs have SPARC 10s. Here a Sun 3/80
is the typical machine a PG gets.
A while ago we had an argument about PCs vs
SUNs. What PGs now want, I think, is
faster equipment and colour screens.
The type does not seem to be that important
anymore.
