When PGs ask for anything in this place we are
greeted with a wall of silence. In fact you start
to get a bit paranoid and thing that people are
talking about you behind your back. This
discussion forum is certainly a step in the
right direction but I don't think I'm they only
one who is concerned about the consequences to
saying in public what many people say in private.
I am aware that PGs are at the very bottom of the
equipment pecking order, but when you see the
facilities at other departments it makes you
wonder what is going wrong here?
If the department wants PGs to complete their
PhD in 3 years decisions need to be made quickly
and we need to be told what they are. If the
turns out that the department is not prepared to
give us more resources then we can make our own
arrangements, but please tell us.
