This certainly seems to be good news: the only remaining question is
time scale. Many postgraduates, with whom I have discussed this issue
feel that they have been less productive than they would have hoped
due to issues surrounding provision of resources. In several cases
alternatives can and have been found, and I am sure postgraduates at
least would benefit by knowing what provision is expected and by what
date.
I am aware of the history of postgraduate demand for personal
machines. I am also sure that I am not the only one who believes that
falling hardware prices in recent years should permit a more
appropriate provision of machines with colour displays and local
processing. Here's to the postulated investment:-)
