PC Desktop Boxes

Hi Folks, :)

I've heard a few people mention getting
desktop boxes to support more local processing.
I'm not entirely convinced that's a great way to go,
and advocate a setup where people (pgs/staff)
have a reasonable power linux box on their desk - say
~100-133ish with enough RAM to be a reasonable Xserver
and allow some light local processing ('texing and
web surfing for example).

If heavy duty processing is needed, then I'd argue that's
better done on a fast server (eg canna/havra).
In general, I think there's a lot to be said for
the ability to build up and easilly upgrade PCs -
even if they do lack the nice well thought out GUI
of a Mac or the shiny label of a Sun.

:)
