Synopsis: Need a context where it is better to buy a system off the shelf than it is to build it yourself. You don't need to re-invent wheels, can share risk with the cvendor, get the benefits of regular developments that may well have been prompted by your competetitors. Downside then is being less well able to innovate ahead of your competitors. Related to BuildOrBuy, BuildNotBuy and BuildAndBuy.
