UNDER THE RED SEA 18 times in 6 days / a breathing apparatus to me under the Red Sea / weightless gave air and joy / deep with many-shaped many fish, / often seeing waves above me, / water clearer than that of my own land / under light of sun from the day when / in a ship from Hurghada / I was carried out, to the early morning / when again I walked onto a harbour / at Sharm el Sheikh, where beyond the buildings / wide and waterless sand-lands / I saw and the great mountains of Sinai / [as] teeth under burning sky sloping / under perpetual blessed sun / in pleasant Na`ama Bay - / until the time when again I flew to my North, / to cold of snow out of its time, / to a sky steadfastly pouring / out of the snowy north into the early spring - / and I wished that I was again in the south. Uncommented words are mostly from ETYM or LOTR. [0] 'ama' extracted from 'amatikse' {tik} ETYM. [1] 'nisse' = locative of 'ni', to show that it belongs with 'ama'. [2] 'veel-ie-lii-nen' = "see-infinitive-many-with" = "with many seeings" = "often seeing". 'veela' is in 'Arctic' (Father Christmas Letters). [3] Most Arabic feminines in '-a' used to end in '-t', which reappears before suffixes, so I imitate here. C.f. Quenya 'tarkil/d-'. The ` in 'Na`ama' is the Arabic 'ayin' sound. 'gh' as in BS: sorry, but Arabic has these sounds. [4] There is now a fair-sized and growing resort town there with its own airport and with many scuba diving centres. [5] 'ya-luu-nna'. [6] 'et-luume-ea-nna'. It has snowed twice in April 1994 in England so far, and the second time it snowed most of the night and settled even in low land. [7] 'nien' = subordinating optative of 'na'. For "be" with allative not locative, I plead need to rhyme for the allative, and need for a 1-syllable verb for meter for the 'be'. Or treat it as an ellipsis with an adjective meaning "returning to" omitted? [8] 'ter-tir-ea' = "through-see-able". [9] My derivation from Proto-Eldarin {thar}. [10] 'noore-nya-o-llo' = "land my of from" = "from that of my land". The 'from' is not literal movement and not ref time, so ablative 'noorenyollo' should likely be dedative 'noorenyol' (see the [NOUN CASES] section of my TolkLang archive file articles/Appleyard.Quenya, and Ivan A Derzhanski 9.12); but rhyme compelled the full form. [11] Should be 'ressen' plural, but rhyme compelled. [12] 'X-il' = "device for X-ing", as ETYM {tek} > PE tekla > Q tekil = "pen" [13] Such as an orange fish a few inches long called Anthias that was everywhere on the coral, and in one place near Ras Muhammad a diver went up a rock tunnel and I couldn't see him for solid Anthias fish between us. [14] 'ek-' assimilated for 'et-'. Impersonal subject '-o' as 'kildo' as in 'Oilima Markirya' in Secret Vice to get a short passive without agent. [15] 'ya-ree-llo' [16] c.f. Namaarie 'ilye tier' rather than *'ilyar tier'. [17] c.f. allative pl. 'atalantea mindonnar' = "on fallen towers" in `Secret Vice', rather than *'atalantie' or *'atalantear'.
