Computing Support

STOP PRESS September 2002
To contact Support at any site please use the form available here.

The information on these pages mainly refers to the "legacy" computing system used at KB before the introduction of the Informatics Computing System (DICE) If you have any questions for Support or wish to report a fault please use the web form available at http://www.inf.ed.ac.uk/cgi-bin/support.cgi.

Can't login to ssh / glory? We've changed the machines you can login to from outside dcs.ed.ac.uk.
  • Students should now login to gateway.dcs.ed.ac.uk instead of ssh.dcs.ed.ac.uk.
  • You should use ssh instead of telnet. Look on openssh.org if your computer needs ssh.

(What is Computing Support and what does it do?)

Having problems with the Informatics computers at KB? Here's what to do:

Some things are not supported by us. If your problem software is on our unsupported list then we can't help you with it and you should try eduni.dcs.questions.

For all other problems: if you're still stuck, then please report broken things (printers, software, monitors, etc.) to faults. Other problems or queries should go to support.

If your problem really can't be dealt with in any other way, you can call in at the Support Office (JCMB room 2421, phone 650-5112). It's currently open 0930-1300 and 1400-1700 every weekday, and is staffed by Carol Dow, Lindsey Brown and Richard Bell.
