know, preferably by email (give your username and Group No.), of any deficiencies. PLEASE NOTE that this checklist should be retained by you so that it can be used again at the end of the practical as a checklist of ALL DOCUMENTS & EQUIPMENT we MUST RECEIVE BACK from you.
Each group is provided with a lockable cupboard so feel free to lock the cupboard if you think that there is anything you wish to keep secure/private or whatever. It is up to you, as a Group, how you organise use of the cupboard key but we MUST have all keys returned as soon as the practical is over. To obtain a key, contact a Technician in the Technicians Lab. The person in the Group who signs for a key will be the one held ultimately responsible for its safe return.
I am also the person to contact when it comes to ordering any components your group may decide to purchase. However, please check the component cupboards first as you may find a suitable component in stock. This may also save you time. When any purchasing is necessary please fill in an ORDER FORM, which can be found on the table where all the shared equipment and parts live, get it signed by your Group Supervisor. Once signed, bring it to me and I will then place the order for you. When the items arrive, usually one or two working days later (as long as you use the catalogues provided), I will then email you to collect them.

The circuit provided incorporates protection features designed to prevent certain undesirable modes of operation e.g. when an ENDSTOP is reached, attempting to drive further in the same direction and also, because the driver chip gets HOT when the motor is left on full power and left stationary for longish periods, a circuit is included to put it into a reduced power mode. In addition, a couple of Flip-Flops (U5) are provided to generate standard TTL level signals and also to provide hardware debouncing of the direction Microswitches.

N.B. One of the variable supply voltage rails, when set to +12V, is used to power the Stepper Motor (see its associated circuit). The rest of the Stepper Motor circuit is powered from the fixed +5V rail.

The camera assembly includes a STEPPER MOTOR (to PAN the camera) and direction limit MICROSWITCHES. The assembly hardware interface to this Stepper Motor Drive and Control (see Schematic) is via a 15-Way D-Type connector (Plug) and the Ribbon cable you have been supplied with.
