Founded 1894 ; Operating Status: closed (1985); Sold to Wm. Grant

Cheek-by-jowl with Glenfiddich and Balvenie in Dufftown but not a member of their family. The distillery was founded in 1894, rebuilt in 1910, and extended in 1964. It was sold to Grants and has been temporarily closed since 1985.

Distillery rating: 2*

Dufftown, Banffshire

The bottle I received was distilled in 1978 and bottled in August of 1993. It was over 130 proof and 65% + alcohol.

I had problems in getting the right mix of water and not sure what it should be. At a tasting most people thought it was tolerable but not great. Reading Michael Jackson's comments about the one G & M bottling leads me to believe that the distillery wasn't highly thought of either.
