Where the river Lossie approaches the malt whisky town of Elgin there are no
fewer than eight distilleries within a few miles. Glen Elgin is not the
nearest to the town whose name it bears but it close enough. The distillery
was founded in 1898-1900, rebuilt and extended in 1964. The malt is an important
component of the White Horse blended whisky.

Having been mothballed for two and a half years it is ready to begin production again in September (1995). The distillery has just had its stills replaced. [as]
