One of the newest distilleries, built by Bells in 1975 as a partner to
next-door neighbour Dufftown. In the late 1980s,
enthusiasts for single malts began to wonder whether the product would become
available to them. The independant bottler James MacArthur released a 12-year

Scotch Malt Whisky Society followed.
In 1991 there was finally an official bottling.

Pittyvaich Distillery was used briefly for a trial production of gin in November 1994 as an experiment to establish the feasibility of establishing a shadow production facility at Pittyvaich in the event of a disaster at the main company gin distillery in Laindon. The results were never bottled and there are no plans to do this again.
It is now (1997) a test bed for new barleys under supervision of UD
