  • If you install Microsoft Office 97 make sure that your regional settings are set to UK before you start; otherwise you will be forced to use a US dictionary and US paper sizes. After install add the Office Service Pack (SR-1) (SR-2 available summer 98) to fix any bugs and possibly some additional office enhancements.
  • Sometimes you find that the install/uninstall programs hangs, when you look at the task manager its reports that the application is not responding; this is to do with the relative priorities of MS Outlook and the install program. Close MS Outlook to wake-up the install program.

  • If you can't get your CD player to work then it looks like the only solution is to reinstall Windows NT.
  • If you download the graphics driver (*1) for your Dell PC then Make sure that you install Windows NT 4.0 AND the latest service pack (currently 3) before you install the graphics driver.
  • If you reinstall NT you will need the Crystal Sound Drivers (*2). Install them using the multimedia icon in the control panel, on devices select add then 'updated or unlisted driver' from the list. You will also need to add the 'MUI-401 Compatible Driver' from the same list.
  • If you are having a lot of problems with suspended keyboards then the Patch for Silitek keyboard (*3) might permanently fix it, but usually unplugging the keyboard and putting it back in does the trick.

  • Printers: I mount the network printer hp24 on Smbhost (the path is \\Smbhost\hp24 or browse using the network neighbourhood). Once installed, make sure the Document Defaults (right click on the printer icon) is set to A4, if it is Letter you will have to manually feed the paper! To add a printer double click the add printer icon, from the start menu select Settings/Printers/Add Printer. You want a to add a Network printer server, the next screen is the printers path (e.g., HP24 is connected on \\Smbhost\hp24), then select the correct driver supplied on the Windows NT CD using the the list below:
