Tools

A number of tools are available to help you in your assignment. These are:-

• prof - a run-time profiling tool
• gprof - similar to prof, but also provides a call graph of the program under profile.
• tcov - a test-coverage utility which back-annotates the source code of an application with the execution frequencies on a line-by-line basis.

man pages for each of the three tools can be found on the SUN systems. You will need to spend a few minutes familiarising yourself with these before you attempt this coursework.
