Welcome to the home page of Group C of the SLI Practical 2000/2001. In case you didn't know, SLI stands for System Level Integration, and the practical is involved with "the design, analysis and implementation of embedded systems." What this basically involves as far as we're concerned is the following:
- Design a system based on a reference system of a robot which is controlable by WAP, via a bluetooth link to a base-station.
- Implement the system. We'll do this using VCC, a lego mindstorms kit, a WAP phone or emulator, and anything else we can convince the University to let us lay our grubby little hands on. Most of the software implementation will be done in VCC.
- Map the system onto a platform. Basically this involves deciding which bits of the software will be executed on which bit of the platform. After this has been done we can investigate performance aspects. Our designated platform is a Hitachi SH2 DSP.
- Model parts of a complete Bluetooth implementation in VCC. Between us and the other groups, A and B, we aim to implement a pretty complete model of Bluetooth. The bits we're responsible for are ????
- Model parts of Bluetooth at a lower level. I don't know too much about this at the minute, I'll get Niall to update this soon. UPDATE: Unfortunately, Niall has dropped out of the SLIP now, so he won't be updating this section.
The team
Who we are, and what we are responsible for:
- Morten Bek - modelling Bluetooth.
- Peter Johnston - the platform mapping
- Paul New - modelling Bluetooth.
- Niall Tracey - lower level Bluetooth implementation.
- Mark Scott - modelling Bluetooth.
- Alan Stanley - the application.
