This week: Three new BIOSs are here. Satellite 4020 4010 & 2520. The first 2 have corrections in them and the 3rd is for a new machine. Another important file which showed up is a new Win98 Internal Modem driverv2.16K-RC2 56K (Mars) modems. If you are having trouble with your internal DAA modem under Win 98, try this driver. Please check the desc on the web site to make sure you have the right modem.
Tips of the Week:
ACPI support in Windows 98
GnomeTIP
This trick is ONLY for power users: I attempted to install ACPI support in Windows 98 the
other day... stupid move. I hosed my hardware configuration (which was easily restored by
using the "Add New Hardware" applet in the Control Panel). ACPI handles Power
Management better than APM (default). Unfortunately, Windows 98 doesn't detect whether
your hardware is ACPI-compatible or not. So, next time you do a "flat" install
of Windows 98, use the following switch: "/p J" (without the quotes). ACPI
support will then be installed. I tried it the other day and it worked (almost) perfectly.
I had problems with my Printer port, but that was solved by changing a setting in my BIOS.
NT users should love this tip: Beware the Blue Screen of Death! It's something we've all feared for many years (especially sysadmins). Now, normally, your computer's operations will be halted when the BSOD appears--until you reboot. With this Registry hack, you can force NT to automatically reboot after a BSOD crash! Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > CrashControl > AutoReboot and set the value to "1" (without the quotes). NT will now reboot when the BSOD appears (after appending the crash log file).

If someone wants
to install Windows 98 on a machine without ACPI support he needs our Toshiba APM. It is
not possible to install the Toshiba WIN98 APM on a Windows 98 full version because it will
search for an older (Full-)version of this application. This is how to correct this: In which order should it be installed ?
