1.4 Interaction between MLWorks and hqn_lsd

1.4.2 Obtaining a license when MLWorks starts up

Each time you start it, MLWorks checks that you have a valid license. Licenses can be obtained from the license server, or from a license keyfile (the default licensing mechanism described in the MLWorks installation notes).

As we saw in Section 1.3 on page 3, the method MLWorks chooses for getting a license depends on the value of the UNIX environment variable MLWORKS_LICENSE. The variable can take any of the following values:

server
Ask license server for a license.

keyfile
Look for a license in a keyfile.

Whatever the value, if MLWorks cannot get a license on start-up, it prints a message to the standard error and then exits. The message is:

Your license is invalid.
