4 Installation

4.3 Installation of Linux from the binary RPM file

MLWorks 2.0 for Linux requires version 2.3.11 or later of RPM to unpack the binary RPM files in the distribution. Separate RPM files are provided for use with the Red Hat releases 4.2 and 5.0 due to differences in the RPM software provided with each of these releases. We recommend RPM 2.4.12 for use with Red Hat 5.0. The distribution files are also provided in tar format in case you do not have a suitable version of RPM or are using another distribution of Linux 2.

Installation of MLWorks for Linux from the RPM file is most easily done as root, although installation by non-root users is also possible. By default MLWorks is installed in /usr/local/lib/MLWorks, although the RPM is relocatable and --prefix can be used to allow the installation of MLWorks in a user specified directory.
