4.3 Installation of Linux from the binary RPM file

4.3.1 Installation by root users

1. Locate the relevant file for your Linux version, by mounting the CD-ROM on your CD-ROM drive and looking in its Linux directory. The files are as follows:
Red Hat 4.2

ml20rh242.rpm

Red Hat 5.0

ml20rh250.rpm

2. Install MLWorks in the usual way, for example:
rpm -ih ml20b250.rpm

This installs MLWorks in /usr/local/lib/MLWorks. A command line of the form
rpm -ih --prefix <installation directory> ml20b250.rpm

installs MLWorks in <installation directory>. The directory name must be an absolute pathname. Relative pathnames and pathnames including shell-expanded characters such as . and ~ do not work.

The owner and group information of the installation are taken from those of the user performing the installation to allow non-root users to perform installations.
