Introduction

There are two course assignments associated with the Computer Architecture module. These must be completed and written up according to the deadlines given in table 1. The aim of each assignment is to pose a set of architecture related questions which you are asked to answer and then write up in a short report. The reports should be submitted to your tutor.

Table 1: Assignment deadlines
Part Weighting Issued Deadline Marked by
I 3/10 Fri. Wk. 1 Mon. Wk. 5 Wk. 6
II 7/10 Tue. Wk. 5 Fri. Wk. 9 Wk. 1 (term 3)

Your write-up for each part of the assignment will be marked and returned to you. Parts I and II carry weightings of 0.3 and 0.7 respectively.

In many cases there will no ``right answer'' to the design problem being posed, and this is taken into account in the marking scheme we use. Good marks will be obtained for reasonable conclusions that have been drawn from valid data. Thus, it is the process by which you draw your conclusions rather than the exact conclusions themselves which contribute most heavily in the assessment. A terse write-up without justification will not obtain high marks, even if it is otherwise correct.
