Research Goals - Summary

The utilisation of the World Wide Web as a distance education environment is growing every day. More and more institutions are adopting the Web as their distance teaching tool. Our aim here is to investigate the World Wide Web as a Computer-Mediated distance learning environment, i.e., its capability and potential as a groupware tool to deliver course material, promote and support collaboration and effective learning, and as part of our conclusions, we intend to include a survey on the use of the WWW in Distance Education which will be running through out the whole research period.

By doing this, we expect to make viable the operationalisation of distance learning environments that intend to use the World Wide Web as their media/medium.

In order to achieve our goals we subdivided our research into four phases, which are below enumerated.

  1. collecting data for our survey (will run parallel to all phases)
  2. devising an evaluation strategy and model
  3. implementing/adapting case studies
  4. implementing evaluation
  5. summarise results
